About

In the Energy working group, PNWER helps find ways to provide sustainable energy for North America to fuel economic recovery and create a low-carbon future for North America.

PNWER brings together key industry leaders from the U.S. and Canada to examine the following key issues:
  • Supply and demand
  • Transmission
  • Permitting across multiple jurisdictions

Based on an Energy working group action item, PNWER helped create the Legislative Energy Horizon Institute (LEHI), which is designed to educate state legislators on the North American energy infrastructure and delivery system. High turnover in state legislative bodies decreases the institutional knowledge concerning complex energy issues in states and provincial legislatures. Legislators who develop state energy policy often lack a comprehensive understanding of how energy infrastructure operates. Click here for more information.

PNWER also does work on the renewable energy sector. For more information, please visit the Energy & Environment page here.

2019 Action Items
Provide more education and training opportunities during PNWER Summit for industry to educate policy makers about best practices, technological advancement, and successful policies in other jurisdictions combined with a survey of membership before meeting to identify weaknesses in understanding by legislators to fine-tune the education received. Within this format, allow for local jurisdictions and industries a chance to inform legislators about the impact of the decisions they are making. This action would provide an opportunity to enhance the Legislative Energy Horizons Institute (LEHI) program.
