Session 6: The Growing Cost of Wildfires
Monday, August 16 | 3:00-4:00pm MT

With each year, more and more of the western United States and Canada is being threatened by catastrophic wildfires. With wildfire seasons growing longer and more intense, it is imperative that our legislators, business leaders, and decision makers come together to discuss the increasing cost of wildfires to our communities, resources, and lives. Our Forestry and Disaster Resilience session was an opportunity to discuss wildfire mitigation and response, new and ongoing policies, and the increasing costs of wildfire across our region.

Fighting Fires: Innovative Technology for Wildfire Management
Thursday, September 17 | 1:00pm-2:00pm PT
As wildfire seasons grow longer and more intense, innovations and advances in technology to fight these wildfires becomes increasingly crucial. Join us to hear from regional companies about what technology and services are being utilized and how the public sector can help in the development and integration of new and better technology for wildfire management.

Featuring presentations from regional companies:
  • Robert Atwood, CEO & Co-Founder, Hummingbird Drones
  • Dan Snyder, Sr. Vice President, Neptune Aviation
  • Ann Walker, Principal Consultant, Ann Walker Consulting

Moderated by PNWER Forestry Co-Chair, Travis Joseph, President/CEO, American Forest Resource Council

Our speakers will address some of the following questions:
  • What technology is out there and how is it used in a wildfire context?
  • What are the barriers or obstacles for further growth and future applications in wildfire detection?
  • What policies, incentives, or direction – especially from government agencies – would accelerate business/technology growth?
  • Where is the sector going? What do you envision as the most likely future opportunities and applications?
