About

The Forestry Working Group brings together legislators, industry leaders, and academics to address the evolving challenges and opportunities in forest management. Our mission is to develop collaborative, evidence-based strategies that support sustainable forestry practices, enhance wildfire resilience, and strengthen the role of forests in climate change mitigation.
Through targeted discussions on active forest management, wildfire prevention, and technological advancements, the group fosters cross-sector partnerships that drive policy innovation and practical solutions. By engaging policymakers, forestry professionals, and environmental researchers, we ensure that forest management policies balance ecological sustainability with economic viability, workforce development, and community protection.

The group’s focus areas include:

  • Forestry & Climate Change – Exploring how sustainable forest practices can enhance carbon sequestration and prevent unmanaged forests from becoming carbon emitters due to wildfires, infestations, and poor management.
  • Wildfire Prevention & Response – Developing proactive policies and leveraging public-private partnerships to mitigate the increasing threats posed by wildfires.
  • Technology & Innovation – Assessing cutting-edge tools and collaborative approaches that improve wildfire response, disaster preparedness, and sustainable land management.

By bringing together key stakeholders, the Forestry Working Group serves as a platform for informed decision-making, ensuring that North America’s forests remain a thriving resource for future generations.
