Application and the Selection Process​
  • ​Congratulations on your decision to apply to LEHI! ​You are applying for the 2025 Cohort and an opportunity to join the extensive LEHI graduate network of over 440 legislators, governors advisors, and policymakers from across North America. 
  • The deadline to apply is to May 1, 2025. Your application will be reviewed, and you will be notified of your acceptance into the cohort by early June or sooner. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Elected state or provincial legislators from the U.S. or Canada
  • Legislators currently serving on energy, natural resources, or environment committees
  • Legislators interested in making energy a part of their legislative career
  • Governors, governor's advisors, or relevant Office of the Governor applicants

Selection Criteria
Selection of applicants is based upon a combination of the following criteria: 
  • Energy-related legislative committee assignments, experience, and/or commitment to energy policy
  • Endorsement from caucus leadership and/or LEHI alumni
  • A balance of bi-partisan, diverse, and geographically diverse participants
  • Selection of applicants will be at the discretion of the Institute partner organizations
  • All applications will be considered

What to Know Before Applying
  • You are encouraged to get a recommendation from legislative leadership or LEHI alumni. Priority is given to legislators who have been recommended by leadership or alumni. 
  • Please be respectful of other applicants by ensuring that you are able to commit to the program. 
  • Tuition for LEHI is $9000 USD per participant. This will be covered for qualified elected legislators who are accepted into the program. Travel and accommodations is estimated at $3000 USD. Scholarships are available for accepted applicants through legislative organizations. 
  • LEHI travel and tuition scholarships have been accepted by all participant state ethics committees as a sanctioned expense.  It is up to each participant to check with their legislative rules regarding scholarships.

Selection Process and Next Steps
  • Applications Open: Early February
  • Applications Due: May 1
  • Cohort Selection: May 15 - June 1
  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please apply early. You will be notified of your acceptance into the LEHI Cohort by May 15 or sooner. If you are not selected into the 2025 Cohort, you may be asked to serve as an alternate. 
  • Upon acceptance into the LEHI Cohort, you will be asked to complete a commitment form to confirm your LEHI attendance and commitment and officially enroll in the Cohort. Following this, you will be provided with instructions on booking your accommodations and travel. 
  • LEHI Session 1: July 11-15 in Richland, WA
  • LEHI Session 2: October 22-25 in Washington, D.C.
