Saskatchewan is a world leader in agricultural products.  With 43 per cent of Canada’s arable land, Saskatchewan is the world’s largest exporter of mustard, flaxseed, lentils and dried peas.  Tour the University of Saskatchewan’s Crop Development Centre as well as the National Research Council’s Plant Biotechnology Institute and see how Saskatchewan is developing improved, safe, nutritious and affordable food products to meet the demand of a growing world population.

Information and Communications Technologies (ICT)

Cost : $20  Limit: 20

With the lowest-cost jurisdiction in Canada for research and development, Saskatchewan boasts a diverse ICT sector with capabilities in synchrotron research and development, satellite control fibre optic and wireless telecommunications and instrumentation as well as many others.  Tours through the Canadian Light Source Synchrotron and other research facilities will highlight Saskatchewan’s innovation.

Veterinary Science and Health

Cost $20  Limit : 20

The University of Saskatchewan has built an international reputation in many areas of health science.  Tour the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization, home of the International Vaccine Centre (VIDO-InterVac).  At the Canadian Light Source, learn how the synchrotron’s beamlines are helping researchers develop innovative treatments for diseases in both humans and animals.

Manufacturing Success Tour
Cost: $20  Limit: 20

Playing a key role in Saskatchewan’s economy, this sector represents approximately 30,500 employees and $12.6 billion in manufacturing shipments in 2011.  Saskatchewan produces a wide range of goods that are exported across North America and the world.  From food products to mining and industrial equipment, Saskatchewan encourages the development and commercialization of new technologies.  Tour through Crestline Coach and see how this company, named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies for 2011, manufactures and ships ambulances, health buses and emergency response vehicles all over the world.

Saskatchewan’s Uranium Tour
Invitation Only

The world’s richest uranium deposits are located in northern Saskatchewan and are currently providing a fifth of the world’s production.  Cameco’s Rabbit Lake operation, which opened in 1975, is the longest operating uranium production facility in North America, and the second largest uranium mill in the world.  This all day, fly-in, tour will give you an in-depth look at the uranium mining industry in Saskatchewan.

 

Saskatchewan’s Potash
Cost: $50

According the Montreal Gazette, “Saskatchewan is to potash what Saudi Arabia is to oil.”  The province has the largest potash industry in the world and accounts for half of the known global reserves.  Existing companies plan for $13 billion in expansion projects over the next decade and several international companies have announced their intentions to become part of this growing industry.  A tour through one of Saskatchewan’s potash mines is currently in the works and will be announced shortly.

Saskatchewan Aboriginal Culture, Heritage and Economic Development
Cost: $40

Take a tour through one of Saskatchewan’s modern and progressive First Nation communities and see how they are building partnerships to support their economic development plans.  The tour will then move on to Wanuskewin Heritage Park where delegates will discover what life was really like for the nomadic tribes as they participate in a traditional tipi raising and gain a better understanding of Saskatchewan’s First Nations peoples.  The tour’s last stop will be at the Back to Batoche festival in Batoche, Saskatchewan, celebrating this province’s rich Métis culture, traditions and history.  Recognized as one of Canada’s Heritage sites, Batoche was the last battlefield in the Northwest Rebellion of 1885 and was selected by Louis Riel as the headquarters for his “Provisional Government of Saskatchewan.”
